Photo Tour of Chernobyl

Previous Page
Six months after the explosion almost three thousand people out of more then 100 thousand evacuated from this area came back to their homes despite official warning not to do that. Only a little bit over 300 live now in the 30 km exclusion zone - most of them old seniors.
The state provides them with electricity, mail and pension delivery, transportation to the church in Chernobyl on holidays and a doctor visit once a week. Usually they are glad to see visitors. It would be a good idea to bring fresh bread and some groceries when you go see the "re-settlers" as a "shop on the wheels" come here once week.

Now we are off to the office of "Chernobyl Interinform" where we're served am ecologically clean lunch.
